IAHD Open Water Diver (I_OWD)

Logo W_DL2Scuba diving is one of the most accessible sports for disabled people. From the first moment that one enters the underwater environment, there is a feeling of well-being. In this totally different world, there is a feeling of freedom, weightless and safety. Indeed, diving is a therapy during which everyday limitations and sometimes even pain are reduced and can even disappear, altogether. Diving is also an aid in to rehabilitation and has a positive effect on both physical and mental health.
The International Association for Handicapped Divers (IAHD) has an extensive training program that gives you the opportunity to learn to dive with professional, well trained Instructors who have learned to teach divers with a disability. The training program, techniques and materials make it possible for almost everybody to enjoy the adventure, beauty and wonders that the underwater world presents.

Minimum Pre-requisites to follow the IAHD Open Water Diver course:
• Minimum age before certification: 14 years of age;
• Competent swimmer (swimming diploma not necessary);
• Medical Statement approved by a physician (not more than 1 year old);
• Signed Certificate of Understanding.

The IAHD Open Water Diver course is designed to teach people with physical or mental disabilities, the theory and dive skills needed to dive safely in an open water environment.
All exercises focus on correct and safe execution of the skills required to meet the learning objectives. Because all divers with physical or mental disabilities have varying levels of ability, each course is tailored to meet the needs of individual participants.

After successfully completing this course, you will be certified as an IAHD 'Open Water Diver'.
